'''Somewhere In The Night''' is an unsolved lostwave snippet that was part of an 80s Mix created by '''NeonBlue'''. It is a somewhat bizarre lostwave case, as NeonBlue has confirmed they know the title and artist behind the song, but refuses to reveal this information.
'''Somewhere In The Night''' is an unidentified pop rock song sourced from a 2008 Dailymotion mix, circulated by the Lyon Funk music community and posted to WatZatSong in 2020 by user gymforma.

Somewhere In The Night was originally posted in 2020 as part of an 80s Mix by NeonBlue. NeonBlue originally claimed in a comment to know the artist behind the song, however refused to reveal the information. They later contradicted themselves on this multiple times, changing their story. NeonBlue would go back-and-forth on how long ago they recorded the song and even eventually denied knowing the title and artist.

== Search ==
Early in the search, there was some confusion about whether NeonBlue80, a member of the Lyon Funk community, is related to the original post, with some accusing him of knowing the song and artist and purposefully hiding it from searchers. This is now confirmed to be a misunderstanding; specifically that NeonBlue is not funky_vinyls_records.<ref name=":2">https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1fl36hj/neonblue_is_a_nice_guy_hes_not_the_op_of_sitn_and/</ref>
The band '''Wild And Blue''' was suggested as a possible artist, citing similar musical styles, however, according to [[Ziro (Q)|q]], this lead has been ruled out.

NeonBlue has previously claimed that the song was likely from a blog, possibly [http://kissmar-2019.blogspot.com/ KISSMAR], [https://hardrockaorheaven.blogspot.com/ HardRockAORHeaven] (CamelBlue) or Polix Soundtrack,<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Somewhereinthenight/comments/1dfgn14/possible_sitn_information_find/</ref> but this has been debunked by a former Lyon Funk community member, who has been identified as the original source of the 33-second snippet clipped from the "Funk Speed" mix. The identity of "funky_vinyls_records" is still unknown.<ref name=":2" />
'''Rene Varo''' was also suggested as a potential singer, however, this seems highly unlikely and purely based on vocal comparison rather than empirical evidence.

The search gained popularity in 2023,<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8k-cwcRW_o</ref> and is now one of the most sought after songs in Lostwave.
== Musical Analysis ==
A slowed sample of the beginning to Giorge Pettus's song "One Time Affair" featured at the end of the snippet,<ref>https://youtu.be/nZX5Ucz-ms0?t=5</ref> originally suggested to searchers that the song was from a mix. This also indicated that Somewhere In The Night was pitch-edited, as confirmed by the fact that in the discovered mix, the track directly before SITN, Something by Lava, was sped up by 15 BPM and pitched F# major, instead of the original E♭ major key.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1bqor6v/possible_somewhere_in_the_night_original_pitch/</ref>

|You know I’ve seen that look before
Inside, you're all alone
Looking for the perfect one
Has left you on your own
You think you're running out of time
The time is on your side
Just when you think it's out of reach
It's right before your eyes
Somewhere in the night
Love's gonna find you
You won't have to cry another tear
You don't have to try so hard this time, girl

Somewhere In The Night is an unidentified pop rock song sourced from a 2008 Dailymotion mix, circulated by the Lyon Funk music community and posted to WatZatSong in 2020 by user gymforma.

Background and Search[edit | edit source]

The song was originally posted to WatZatSong by user gymforma on November 27th, 2020.[1] On August 28th, 2022, gymforma shared a slightly longer 33-second recording on MegaNZ, with the filename "request 8.mp3".[2] He stated that he got the song from a collector who has been identified as NimzoAOR.[how?]

On June 13th, 2024, Discord user Floptok discovered a mix titled "Funk Speed",[3] uploaded by DailyMotion user "funky_vinyls_records" on May 23rd, 2008, which contains a longer ~47-second snippet of the song.[4] Another unidentified song was discovered among the songs in the mix, known as "You're On Your Own," and the remaining tracks were from various countries, including Italy, Canada, Denmark, Norway, and the United States, dating from 1983 to 1989.[5] In total, the 17 mixes contain 123 distinct song snippets, 122 of which are identified as of September 22nd, 2024.[6]

Early in the search, there was some confusion about whether NeonBlue80, a member of the Lyon Funk community, is related to the original post, with some accusing him of knowing the song and artist and purposefully hiding it from searchers. This is now confirmed to be a misunderstanding; specifically that NeonBlue is not funky_vinyls_records.[7]

NeonBlue has previously claimed that the song was likely from a blog, possibly KISSMAR, HardRockAORHeaven (CamelBlue) or Polix Soundtrack,[8] but this has been debunked by a former Lyon Funk community member, who has been identified as the original source of the 33-second snippet clipped from the "Funk Speed" mix. The identity of "funky_vinyls_records" is still unknown.[7]

The search gained popularity in 2023,[9] and is now one of the most sought after songs in Lostwave.

Musical Analysis[edit | edit source]

A slowed sample of the beginning to Giorge Pettus's song "One Time Affair" featured at the end of the snippet,[10] originally suggested to searchers that the song was from a mix. This also indicated that Somewhere In The Night was pitch-edited, as confirmed by the fact that in the discovered mix, the track directly before SITN, Something by Lava, was sped up by 15 BPM and pitched F# major, instead of the original E♭ major key.[11]

Leads[edit | edit source]

Possible[edit | edit source]

  • Alannah Myles: Suggested due to similar vocals and musical style.[12]
  • Jan Parker Stevens: Suggested due to similar vocals and musical style.[13]
  • Tom Harriman: Suggested due to similar vocals and music style.[14]

  • Phyllis Rhodes: In June 2024, Phyllis Rhodes, former lead singer of the band Saint Tropez, was considered as the singer due to her similar voice.[17] Reddit user AltariaBoy contacted Rhodes, who initially believed the song was created by AI using her voice.[18] She did, however, suggest that it could be one of her demos that was never released due to legal or contractual issues,[19] however it was not found and the lead was debunked.[20]
