Feels Like a Wish (formerly known as "Fond My Mind") is a solved synth-pop song released in 1989 by the Brazilian duo Station K; which consisted of Edde Edman and André Nóbrega.
Background[edit | edit source]
Sometime in 2013, WatZatSong user gsipkoi first shared the song in a now-deleted and unarchived post.[1] On August 29th, 2014, a user named Peter posted the song again, this time to song identification website spiritofradio.ca, with no additional information as to where he obtained it.[2]
The song first gained popularity in September 2020, when it was first uploaded to YouTube by user "Usr deleated from Planet".[3]
In early December 2020, Discord user Glups was able to contact gsipkoi, the OP of the original WatZatSong post, who quickly joined the server and provided an extended 3 minute snippet of the song without the intro, which JayKay, the owner of the Fond My Mind discord, posted to YouTube on December 8th, 2020.[4] The OP also revealed that the song was recorded from a Brazilian radio station, either Transamerica or Radio Cidade, indicating that it was most likely a Brazilian song.[5]
On July 15th, 2021, YouTube user Whang posted a video about the song, increasing its notoriety as the "Most Mysterious Song of Brazil" and resulting in an influx of Brazilians assisting in the search.[5][6]
On January 5th, 2022, it was discovered that the song sampled "Each Time I Touch You" by the late Swiss artist Valentino.[7] On August 8th, 2022, searchers contacted Valentino's producer Martin Richard, who confirmed that he had no involvement with the song.[8]
Discovery[edit | edit source]
Sometime in March 2023, YouTube user Luiz Neto left a comment on a reupload of the song by user NilsonSeiza, suggesting that the song was created by the Brazilian cover band Máquinas Na Pista.[9] The band was contacted by Reddit user Skrrtey, and on September 26th, 2023, the band responded, claiming that the song was produced by Edde Edman with vocals by Sergio Dourado.[10]
On September 28th, 2023, Skrrtey contacted Sergio Dourado, who denied being the vocalist of the song, but claimed that someone named André was the singer.[11]
Edde became increasingly frustrated with the daily influx of messages, at one point threatening to sue anyone who used his song without permission. Searchers concluded that he was not the person responsible for the song based on his combative demeanor and refusal to provide any updates, even after being questioned several times.[12][13]
After a few weeks, the search team discovered an interview with Edde and fellow musician William Paiva, which was conducted by a Brazilian TV station in Recife in 1998.[14] Paiva was contacted and revealed that he had the full version of the song, which was recorded by a project called Station K, consisting of music producer Edde Edman and singer André Nóbrega.[15] On December 14th, 2023, Paiva released the song on his YouTube channel, marking the song as found,[16] with Edde officially releasing his own remaster of the song on December 20th, 2023.[17]
