The Fall Of The King (also known as "The Fallen King" or "The King Has Fallen") is an unknown song taped off Dallas Texas radio station, Z-Rock, in the mid-to-late 80s by Sled1025 on the Encyclopaedia Metallum forums and Armador Thrash on Twitter.
Background[edit | edit source]
On September 3rd, 2009, user Sled1025 from the Encyclopaedia Metallum forums, a website for discussions about metal bands, posted in a thread dedicated to song identification a recording from Dallas-based rock and metal station Z-Rock.[1] Sled1025 claimed that all of the songs on the tape were released in 1988 or earlier, transcribed the lyrics and provided an MP3 version of the track.[2]
On December 3rd, 2020, Twitter user Armador Thrash asked for help in finding an unknown metal song recorded from Z-Rock in 1987.[3] A day later, the discussion about the song continued on the Heavy Metal Rarities Forums, where it was suggested that the lyrics could be found in the Metal Archives. When this proved unsuccessful, the song was uploaded to YouTube.[4] User Poserkiller suggested that the song be called "Fall of the King" by Redd Barron, giving the song its placeholder name.[5]
In late 2020, Armador Thrash submitted the song to Ian Christe's ROOTS metal history show on SiriusXM Liquid Metal, seeking help in identifying the band.[6]
On December 14th, 2020, a post about the song was made on r/lostwave, which initially attracted the interest of the lostwave community.[7]
Leads[edit | edit source]
Possible[edit | edit source]
- Zion/Draggone: A Californian band, which is being investigated because a song called "Glory to the King" from 1987 is attributed to them.[8][9]
Debunked[edit | edit source]
- Redd Barron: Was one of the first leads to be raised, as they had a song titled "Fall of the King" which matched lyrics in the song, however, fans of the band said this was purely a coincidence and Redd Barron uploaded a version of their song in 2020 which proved that the two songs were different.[10]
- Haven: A band discussed in the 2020 HMR Forums posts that was also quickly debunked.[11]
- Baron Steele[12]
- Bernard E. Cavazos[13]
- Kinetic Dissent[14]
- Conquest[15]
- Z'Rose[16]
- Talon[17]
- Blackmayne[18]
- Sentinel[19]
- Pathfinder: A Canadian band who only released a demo in 1985,[20] confirmed to have not made the song.[21]
- Christopher Janata: A 1983 song titled "Fallen King" found in a Cocatalog entry,[22] confirmed to have not made the song.[23]
- Pat Dawsey: Possible Z-Rock DJ who originally played the song on the radio,[24] does not remember the song.[25]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Presumed Lyrics |
(Verse 1)
The sky is filled with ash and smoke The towers burn; the walls, they crumble The bodies lie about the fields No one is left to win the battle (Pre-Chorus) The people can’t believe their eyes The king has fallen, see him die A time of mystery, a time of death The evil one’s promise has been kept (Chorus) The fall, the fall of the king The fall, the fall of the king (Verse 2) The night sky is filled with fire See the king on his royal pyre Fools, to think that he would win Against such evil, against such sin (Pre-Chorus) The people can’t believe their eyes The king has fallen, see him die A time of mystery, a time of death The evil one’s promise has been kept (Chorus) The fall, the fall of the king The fall, the fall of the king (Guitar Solo) (Verse 3) The king’s time has come to pass The wicked one has come at last A time of fear, a time of pain Cannot escape the evil one’s reign (Pre-Chorus) The people can’t believe their eyes The king has fallen, see him die A time of mystery, a time of death The evil one’s promise has been kept (Chorus) The fall, the fall of the king The fall, the fall of the king The fall, the fall of the king The fall, the fall of the king |
