Suffocated by Religion, (previously known as "Your Sacrifice", "The Most Mysterious Death Metal Song", "You’re So Self-Absorbed" or simply "Yeah") is a formerly unidentified death metal/grindcore song by Belgian deathgrind band Out In The Cold (formerly known as Mindfart). It was posted onto the r/Lostwave subreddit by user clipperjangle (Most Mysterious 90s/marktrail) in July 2020 and solved in June 2025.
Background
On July 27, 2020, the song was first posted by reddit user clipperjangle (Most Mysterious 90s/marktrail) to the r/Lostwave subreddit, where he stated the song was recorded off of the community non-commercial radio station KBOO from Portland, Oregon in 1996.[1]
On December 1, 2021, clipperjangle uploaded the song to YouTube channel Most Mysterious 90s under the name “The Most Mysterious Death Metal Song on the Internet".[2]
Due to a lack of discernible lyrics and other of Most Mysterious 90s' uploads gaining more attention, the search remained largely unpopular outside of the comments section on the YouTube original upload.

Previous Leads
- Napalm Death: English grindcore band Napalm Death[9] was suggested as a potential lead since the search began due to perceived similarities, but proved unlikely due to the band's popularity and the song's failure to appear on any of their releases. Debunked once the song was identified.
- Murdergod: Investigation into the now-defunct American death metal band Murdergod began due to their roots in the Portland scene and striking similarities their music shared with the track. However, Murdergod's discography (excluding God Destroyer[10] released in 1996) wasn't easily accessible online, quickly halting progress with the lead. Debunked when a Discord user contacted an anonymous associate of former bassist Kevin Schreutelkampm[11], who denied Murdergod was responsible for the song. Additionally, the remainder of Murdergod's releases were found, neither of which contained the song in question.[12][13]
