Wit & Wendy (formerly known as "Something That's Long Gone") is a solved lostwave by British indie-rock band Iris, which was first uploaded to WatZatSong by user Sherka in 2014
Background[edit | edit source]
On January 11, 2014, the song was first posted by WatZatSong user Sherka, who claimed that he recorded the song in 1993, and the post received no attention.[1]
The song first gained attention on August 15, 2023, when it was reuploaded by YouTube user mckiddie.[2] The song's filename was "93 fev side 54.mp3", so it was dated to February 1993 or earlier because the OP was French and Février means February in French.[3]
Discovery[edit | edit source]
On February 26, 2024, Discord user marktrail discovered the song after purchasing several singles from a French seller on Discogs in an attempt to find songs posted by French WatZatSong poster CentralMuzik. The collection included an EP called Appendix by a British band called Iris, and they were able to identify the song as Wit & Wendy by Iris.[4][5]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Presumed Lyrics |
(Verse 1)
Didn't do that, didn't know that You're always wrong But of course I'm such an asshole Deep in the depth of my soul (Verse 2) Sometimes I wish I was a film star Perched at the end of a bar Perhaps a cowboy in a whorehouse Or just a little gray mouse (Refrain) My house, my house My house, my house, my house (Verse 3) But of course I realize escaping Only takes me deeper in To something that's long gone You're always wrong (Verse 4) I know things will get better, Wendy But the times, they do me wrong Of all the things I'm certain It's that I must belong One thing that I can't stand People don't know how to live And one fact they got over me is That they know how to give, how to give |
Personnel[edit | edit source]
Philip Wagg – lead vocals, guitar
Wayne Walker – bass
Simon Jones – drums
