Brighter Days (formerly known as "Back To Bed" or "Mechanical People") is a solved lostwave by indie-rock band John Snow that released in 2011, and was posted on WatZatSong by user daqva.
Background[edit | edit source]
On April 28th, 2011, WatZatSong user daqva first posted the song, claiming that it was recorded from the Philadelphia radio station Y-Rock on XPN,[1] which broadcasted under that name until June 15th, 2011, when the name was changed to XPN2.[2][3]
The sample went unnoticed for well over a decade, until the search gained traction in late 2023, when it was posted on r/lostwave by user stablemachines.[4]
On January 16th, 2024, Reddit user SpiritualTrifle4213 posted an archive of Y-Rock's playlists,[5] and more were posted on March 6th, 2024 by Reddit user stevethesleeve12.[6]
On February 21st, 2024, YouTube channel LostMusicColdCase suggested two possible leads for the song, "Too Many Times" by Inviting The Crash and "Too Many Things Have Already Been Said" by Chris Hornsby.[7] The former song was debunked, but the latter song could not be found online because the album on which it appeared, Freshly Grounded Man, was never released.[8] The latter lead was debunked when searchers compared Hornsby's vocals with the snippet and realized there was no resemblance.[9]
On February 23rd, 2024, Lostwave's Finest Wiki user ArthurOffical shared an alleged Dutch poem from the 1700s, claiming that it was the original source of the song's lyrics.[10] This was debunked when it was confirmed that the alleged book of poetry was not in the Dutch National Library catalogue,[11] and the National Library of the Netherlands confirmed via email that it did not exist.[12]
Discovery[edit | edit source]
On May 19th, 2024, Reddit user Belfour20 identified the song as "Brighter Days" by Norwegian indie-rock band John Snow,[13] which also had a music video on Vimeo.[14] This was discovered by searching the Y-Rock archived playlists from February 2011.[15]
The song was officially released on May 25th, 2024 on Spotify and Apple Music.[16]
