== History ==
==Background (July 2021)==
LCDA was uploaded onto various Facebook groups before July 3, 2021. The lostwave snippet was uploaded along with an edit of Alice In Wonderland.
Sometime before July 3rd, 2021, a Facebook user named Jitomate Triste posted on Facebook, either in his private feed or in a private group, asking for the song's name. A video edit of the song, featuring footage from Disney's animated film Alice in Wonderland, was attached to the post. Jitomate Tristes' post received little attention and was dismissed.<ref>https://web.archive.org/web/20231123172455/https://www.facebook.com/1261341603/videos/3148428885376852/</ref><ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/LaCancionDeAlicia/comments/1be0xcd/lcda_lcda_related_timeline/</ref>

Jitomate Triste was the original poster, but they were banned shortly after posting for unknown reasons. This drastically shot down the chances of finding the song, as Jitomate was no longer there to answer any questions.
On July 3rd, 2021, Facebook user Daniel Gutierrez uploaded a screen recording of Jitomate Triste's post on the Facebook group "Lost Media Perdidos Posting",<ref>https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cj5ixC9WV5o66ciSr03SJWE8XWnfYeWQcImwOum6OUo/edit#heading=h.m9cluo6duc9h</ref> which would be reuploaded on YouTube by user Javk Ani- -ZnKyak on July 4th, 2021.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8OmEBMn-ys</ref>

==Previous Leads (September 2021 - May 2024)==

The search gained traction in September 2021 on the Spanish internet, when it was initially uploaded on r/lostmedia and r/lostwave by users Longjumping-Table819 and GameMonkeyDev respectively.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/lostmedia/comments/pisug4/hi_everybody_im_from_lost_media_perdidos_posting/</ref><ref name=":0">https://www.reddit.com/r/lostmedia/comments/pisug4/hi_everybody_im_from_lost_media_perdidos_posting/</ref> As the community grew, it became widely assumed that the singer was not a native English speaker and most likely had a Spanish accent.<ref name=":0" />
The video would be reuploaded onto YouTube days later.

In mid-October 2021, a YouTube user named 'Yo yoyo' suggested that Chilean alt-rock band Gin & Tonic could have created the song.<ref>https://www.discogs.com/release/30220364-Gin-Tonic-Free-As-The-Sun</ref> The band in question was formed in 2001, and split sometime in 2005. In 2003, the group released their first and only album, Free as the Sun, with English vocals and a similar musical style.<ref>https://web.archive.org/web/20041030142422/http://www.bandasdechile.cl/banda_detalle.php?banda_id=1364</ref><ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeCDTKGjbLo</ref>
On May 16, 2024 an announcement on Reddit was posted saying that LCDA had been found when the OP of the Reddit post’s friend had said they were friends with one of the band members that is part of the band Bad Influence (now known as “Best Promotions”). A video was found on Facebook showing a live performance of the song by the band. Currently, the band has been contacted about the song, and we are awaiting a response.

In late October, some people contacted Gin & Tonic's vocalist, Ricardo Méndez, who confirmed that the song was not created by him or his band. Later, Méndez would record a cover of "La Cancion De Alicia" on his channel, @richardvox, titled "Under The Stars".<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6R6-uPMi8E</ref>
== The Search and Previous Leads ==
The search began gaining traction in September of that year. As a community began forming, it became widely thought that the singer is not a native English speaker and most likely has a Spanish accent. This opens the possibility of the song being from a Spanish-speaking country, like Argentina, Chile, Spain and many more.
==Discovery==

On May 16th, 2024, Reddit user JMike_324 shared his discovery of the song, which he found after showing it to a friend at a university, who recognized it as being by the Peruvian band "Bad Influence".<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1cttng2/we_found_la_cancion_de_alicia/</ref> They linked to a post from November 29th, 2018, in which the band performed the song live; the song's name was revealed to be "Dreams 4ever," and was recorded in November 2018.<ref>https://www.facebook.com/100063153434308/videos/2049906881755656/?mibextid=oFDknk&rdid=YyEfKwHGV0eJq1hE</ref><ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhJRc3W3dk4</ref>
On October 21, 2021, YouTube user @yoyoyo8230 posted the first of a series of 3 videos, titled ""La Canción de Alicia" (Lost Media) Misterio Revelado", each video being only a still drawing of Alice in Wonderland. The audio, although seemingly unrelated to the search, was made up of songs by a long-gone group nicknamed "Gin Toc", short for "Gin and Tonic". In the comment section of the videos, @yoyoyo8230 proceeded to give more details on how he came in possession of these tracks :<blockquote>I have worked in a recording studio years ago and I have kept a LOT of material from Chilean bands who recorded in the studio : demos, rehearsals, studio versions.</blockquote>Ricardo Mendes of Gin & Tonic initially became a big lead, and one of the members of the lostwave community would reach out to him, asking if he recognized LCDA. Ricardo responded that he had never heard it before, but that he would love to make a cover of it for the community. Later down the line, Richard Mendez would release his cover of “La Cancion De Alicia” on his channel, @richardvox, naming the song “Under The Stars”.

The band's guitarist created the Alice in Wonderland edit, which was uploaded to the Indie 505 Facebook page, but deleted an hour later by a moderator. This is where Jitomate Triste, presumably a member of the page, downloaded and re-uploaded the video.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1cu276e/message_from_one_of_the_members_of_bad_influence/</ref>
In his short documentary on the lostwave, @YbxrdsGaming on YouTube said that “apart from a slight change in accent, the song sounded almost identical to the original snippet”.

The following day, on May 17th, 2024, the studio version was found and posted by JMike_324 on his YouTube channel.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1cu6z7c/la_canci%C3%B3n_de_alicia_hq_demo_version/</ref>
The search began to slow down. @YbxrdsGaming says that “Richard’s cover of the song was so good that some people in the community just gave up on the search and settled with Richard’s Under The Stars”.

The part of the community that still wanted to find the original song instead began looking into the edit the song was set to. Most of the GIFs were identified to be taken from tumblr in the early-to-mid 2010s, as trippy Alice In Wonderland edits were widely circulated there due to the site's culture of aesthetic blogs.

On the 17th of May, reddit user JMike shared the discovery of the song. They had showed the snippet to a friend at university who said not only had she heard the song, she had been a friend of the band who created it. The band's name was "Bad Influence", who were a Peruvian band who still had a Facebook page (although the page's name had been changed to "Best Promotions"). JMike found a video on their page of LCDA, entitled "Dreams 4ever".

Last night I could find, something warm

Later the band's guitarist spoke to the community on the Fond My Mind Discord, saying they had created the trippy edit and posted it in a Facebook group, but sometime later it had been deleted by admins. This is likely where Jitomate Triste found the video and downloaded it.
In the middle of the night it calls me

Another version of the song was found on Facebook recorded from a practice session.
Between the life and death, you decide

Later that day, the band responded to the community:
A million miles away, it searches me

"In 2019, I decided to make an edit of Alicia using an old demo we recorded and some gifs I found on Google, using Inshot on a 2gb ram phone lol. I couldn't convince the band to post the video on our page, so I uploaded it to the Indie 505 group, which was deleted a few hours later.
'''(Refrain)'''

Luckily, a user named Jitomate Triste was able to capture the video and, without knowing it, went viral, making all of this possible. Last night, an old friend named Leslie told me that her friend showed her this song and she quickly recognized it and contacted me. I was totally in shock to find out that this song, along with the edit, was a mystery and that it had almost 500k views. I couldn't believe it! We are so grateful to all of you."
When I see your face in the darkness night

- Bad Influence, responding to the popularity of their song in a YouTube comment. Translated from Spanish.
I just wanna be the only who change your mind

Subsequently, a high quality demo of the song was uploaded by JMike.
But my life is real, you're a simple dream

== Lyrics (of the Snippet) ==
That remember me the love is a mystery

Oh please, let me be this boy, who you never forgot
When I see your face in the darkest night,

I won't close my eyes, but somebody wake me up
I just wanna be only one that change your mind

'''(Verse 1)'''
But my life is real, not a simple dream,

Last night I could find, something warm
Then remembering that love is a misery,

In the middle of the night it calls me
Oh please,

Between the life and death, you decide
Let me be this boy

A million miles away, it searches me
Who you’ll never forgot

'''(Refrain)'''
I won’t close my eyes,

When I see your face in the darkness night
But somebody wake me up

I just wanna be the only who change your mind
oh,

But my life is real, you're a simple dream
oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh

That remember me the love is a mystery
oh, oh ,oh, oh,

Oh please, let me be this boy, who you never forgot
Yeahhhhh!

I won't close my eyes, but somebody will
Look at me in the eyes,

When I see your face in the darkness night
I just wanna be the only who change your mind
But my life is real, you're a simple dream
That remember me the love is a misery
Oh please, let me be this boy, who you never forgot
I won't close my eyes, but somebody wake me up
'''(Chorus)'''
Look at me in the eyes
Are you gonna stay by my side?
Are you gonna stay by my side?

And spend the night together,
Spending nights together, together

together,
Together under the stars

together under the stars.
‘Cause nobody knows, you could be the first and the last

Nobody knows,
I'm sure it last forever, forever

You could be the first and the last,
I would make you only mine

Should we last forever?
Look at me in the eyes

forever?

I’ll make you only mine.

Look at me in the eyes,

Are you gonna stay by my side?
Are you gonna stay by my side?

And spend the night together,
Spending nights together, together

together,
Together under the stars

together under the stars.

Dreams 4ever (formerly known as "La Canción de Alicia" and "Under The Stars") is a solved psychedelic rock song that was popularized on the Facebook group Lost Media Perdidos Posting. On May 16th, 2024, the song was identified as Dreams 4ever by the Peruvian band Bad Influence.

Background (July 2021)[edit | edit source]

Sometime before July 3rd, 2021, a Facebook user named Jitomate Triste posted on Facebook, either in his private feed or in a private group, asking for the song's name. A video edit of the song, featuring footage from Disney's animated film Alice in Wonderland, was attached to the post. Jitomate Tristes' post received little attention and was dismissed.[1][2]

On July 3rd, 2021, Facebook user Daniel Gutierrez uploaded a screen recording of Jitomate Triste's post on the Facebook group "Lost Media Perdidos Posting",[3] which would be reuploaded on YouTube by user Javk Ani- -ZnKyak on July 4th, 2021.[4]

Previous Leads (September 2021 - May 2024)[edit | edit source]

The search gained traction in September 2021 on the Spanish internet, when it was initially uploaded on r/lostmedia and r/lostwave by users Longjumping-Table819 and GameMonkeyDev respectively.[5][6] As the community grew, it became widely assumed that the singer was not a native English speaker and most likely had a Spanish accent.[6]

In mid-October 2021, a YouTube user named 'Yo yoyo' suggested that Chilean alt-rock band Gin & Tonic could have created the song.[7] The band in question was formed in 2001, and split sometime in 2005. In 2003, the group released their first and only album, Free as the Sun, with English vocals and a similar musical style.[8][9]

In late October, some people contacted Gin & Tonic's vocalist, Ricardo Méndez, who confirmed that the song was not created by him or his band. Later, Méndez would record a cover of "La Cancion De Alicia" on his channel, @richardvox, titled "Under The Stars".[10]

Discovery[edit | edit source]

On May 16th, 2024, Reddit user JMike_324 shared his discovery of the song, which he found after showing it to a friend at a university, who recognized it as being by the Peruvian band "Bad Influence".[11] They linked to a post from November 29th, 2018, in which the band performed the song live; the song's name was revealed to be "Dreams 4ever," and was recorded in November 2018.[12][13]

The band's guitarist created the Alice in Wonderland edit, which was uploaded to the Indie 505 Facebook page, but deleted an hour later by a moderator. This is where Jitomate Triste, presumably a member of the page, downloaded and re-uploaded the video.[14]

The following day, on May 17th, 2024, the studio version was found and posted by JMike_324 on his YouTube channel.[15]
