Such A Pity is an solved pop song by the Norwegian singer-songwriter Laila Samuels, that was originally posted to WatZatSong in 2021 by user Eva99.

Background[edit | edit source]

On April 8, 2021, the song was first uploaded to WatZatSong by user Eva99, who claimed that they found the song on a burnt CD they created in 2007.[1]

The song first gained attention in the Lostwave community on June 8, 2021, when it was reuploaded by YouTube user Swidr.[2]

Discovery (March 2024 - January 2025)[edit | edit source]

On March 22, 2024, Reddit user leerosevere identified the song as "Such A Pity" by Laila Samuels,[3] after using the ASCAP music database to look up the song's title. After getting in touch with her through Facebook, she confirmed that she was the song's creator and it was released on an obscure record label, but she no longer had the complete recording.[4]

On June 20, 2024, a YouTube user named Aidnicc claimed to have received a message from Laila, confirming that she was sent the complete recording of the song, and that she would have to check the production rights on the song to see if she could release it.[5]

On September 25, 2024, Laila Samuels stated that she believes the song was created in 1999, after being contacted by Reddit user Fandroidfan2002.[6]

On November 17, 2024, Laila Samuels stated that the song was a previously unreleased demo, and that it would be officially released in January 2025.[7] This presumably debunks the purported claim by Reddit user leerosevere, who claimed that Laila said that the song was released on an obscure record label.[4]

On January 2nd, 2025, Laila Samuels released an album called the "The Lost Demos" which included the full song.[8]
