Katonda Alinawe, formerly known as Kenya Dance, is a solved lostwave of the Ugandan gospel singer David SonJC.
Background
On January 14, 2013, the YouTuber and Musician Joji, aka Filthy Frank posted a video titled "HOW TO PICK UP WOMEN IN 30 DIFFERENT CULTURES". In a certain part of the video, a 3-second snippet of a song can be heard, when his fans asked him the name of the song, Joji said:
Don't know the name, stop asking!
On December 21 2015, a video titled "NEW African Cristiano Ronaldo - AMAZING Long Shot HD", was posted by a channel named TM2. At the end of the video, the same excerpt from Joji's video is heard, when asked where he found the song, the user replied that he got it on the deep web for 10 dollars. It is not known whether the user was telling the truth or was just joking.
On December 19th 2020, the youtuber “Whang” uploaded a video featuring the Kenya Dance mystery, revealing the search to more people.
Discovery
On December 3 2023, the YouTuber nbduckman uploaded a video titled "The Search for the Filthy Frank Kenya Song", which explained the history of the search up to that point, and offered a $300 bounty for who find the song. That same day, the Discord user damn peggy watched the nbduckman video and decided to try find the song.
The user searched in YouTube for "east ugandan gospel before:2013", and found the song Katonda Alinawe, that at 34 seconds there was the excerpt from Joji's video. nbduckman uploaded another video that day announcing the find, and awarded the $300 bounty to damn peggy.
The discovery of Katonda Alinawe created a snowball effect, where more attention was payed to the Lostwave community, meaning more songs were identified. This kickstarted a Golden Age where other songs that had been searched for decades were finally found.
