You Were Never Meant To Go is an unsolved lostwave song that was first uploaded to YouTube in 2012 by user Rueben Jankowiak, who claims to have discovered it on a CD found on the pavement.

Background[edit | edit source]

On September 22nd, 2012, YouTube user spikethegoth89 (aka Rueben Jankowiak) first posted the song, stating in the description that he found the song in 2005 on a CD laying on the pavement.[1] According to another comment by the OP, 9 out of 11 tracks on the CD were composed by a band called "The Cinematic Orchestra," with this track being the only one that remains unidentified.[2]

The other lost track from the CD was posted on the same day, and it was solved sometime in October 2012 by user jazzysclassicjazz, who revealed that it was another song by The Cinematic Orchestra called Burn Out.[3]

It has been suggested that Rueben Jankowiak may have created the song as an elaborate hoax, as he is a musician and some people believe his voice sounds similar to the song's vocalist.[4][5][6]
