At Night (previously known as "Waiting For The Countdown" and "Waiting For A Come Down") is an identified new-wave song by American new-wave band Strike. It was first uploaded to the New Wave Outpost forums in 2012 by user Guglielm.
Background
On August 23rd, 2012, the song was first posted to the New Wave Outpost forums by user Guglielm as part of a collection of lost songs, but it did not gain much traction.[1]
On July 16th, 2013, Guglielm uploaded the song to WatZatSong,[2] but it did not receive much attention, so he reuploaded it on August 6th, 2014, stating in his post that the song was possibly called Waiting for a Come Down.[3] Based on the OP's other found songs, this song was most likely recorded between 1980 and 1984, and recorded from the WFMU New Jersey radio station.[4]
According to WatZatSong user tyx, the song features an Oberheim DMX drum machine, which was manufactured between 1980 and 1985.[5]
On June 10th, 2023, YouTube user NY80sTapes posted another recording of the song from a compilation of radio snippets, which is assumed to have been recorded from the same broadcast on WFMU in 1983.[6]
Discovery
On December 6th, 2024, Discord user aidnic found a mention of a 1981 live performance by a band called Strike on WFMU DJ Pat Duncan's Facebook, and later found the partial audio of the show from a 2006 WFMU show archive.[7]
The band had two lost cassette albums,[8] including one titled Falling Up, which was released on January 17th, 1983.[9] The song was not featured on the partial live recording, but the band's vocals and musical style were similar to the lost song.[10]
On December 8th, 2024, the song was identified as "At Night" by Strike after the band's guitarist John Costa was contacted and proved that they created the song.[11] Guglielm also claimed that the song was tagged as "Strike," but it wasn't included in the original post because he wasn't sure about the tag's accuracy.[12]

Lyrics
Presumed Lyrics |
(Verse 1)
We start to shake, we feel the change from the inside We concentrate, we shoot the stars after midnight Back to the park once again (in a go-go land?) (Cheap swing?) at the talking kings once again (and the downdeep blast?) We're lookin' for a new example We know we cannot change the world The walls outside can tumble, but I I don't think we care (Chorus) Everybody's looking for the in-crowd (at night) Everybody's waiting for the countdown (at night) (Verse 2) Spin out, the party boys again Like a team, we play the scene again Following the active pressure Dancing in the jagged light Pretty, painted (portion?), with a A synthetic mind I get confused (Chorus) Everybody's looking for the in-crowd (at night) Everybody's waiting for the countdown (Bridge) Waiting, waiting... Waiting, waiting Waiting At night At night (Chorus) Everybody's looking for the in-crowd (at night) Everybody's waiting for the countdown Everybody's looking for the in-crowd (at night) Everybody's waiting for the countdown (at night) Everybody's looking for the in-crowd (at night) Everybody's waiting (at night) for the countdown (at night) Everybody's looking for the in-crowd Everybody's waiting for the countdown Everybody's looking for the in-crowd |
