At Night (previously known as "Waiting For The Countdown" and "Waiting For A Come Down") is an identified new-wave song by American new-wave band Strike. It was first uploaded to the New Wave Outpost forums in 2012 by user Guglielm.
Background[edit | edit source]
On August 23, 2012, the song was first posted to the New Wave Outpost forums by user Guglielm as part of a collection of lost songs, but it did not gain much traction.[1]
On July 16, 2013, Guglielm uploaded the song to WatZatSong,[2] but it did not receive much attention, so he reuploaded it on August 6, 2014, stating in his post that the song was possibly called Waiting for a Come Down.[3] Based on the OP's other found songs, this song was most likely recorded between 1980 and 1984, and recorded from the WFMU New Jersey radio station.[4]
According to WatZatSong user tyx, the song features an Oberheim DMX drum machine, which was manufactured between 1980 and 1985.[5]
On June 10, 2023, YouTube user NY80sTapes posted another recording of the song from a compilation of radio snippets, which is assumed to have been recorded from the same broadcast on WFMU in 1983.[6]
Discovery[edit | edit source]
On December 6, 2024, Discord user aidnic found a mention of a 1981 live performance by a band called Strike on WFMU DJ Pat Duncan's Facebook, and later found the partial audio of the show from a 2006 WFMU show archive.[7]
The band had two lost cassette albums,[8] including one titled Falling Up, which was released on January 17, 1983.[9] The song was not featured on the partial live recording, but the band's vocals and musical style were similar to the lost song.[10]
On December 8, 2024, the song was identified as "At Night" by Strike after the band's guitarist John Costa was contacted and proved that they created the song.[11] Guglielm also claimed that the song was tagged as "Strike," but it wasn't included in the original post because he wasn't sure about the tag's accuracy.[3]
