Katonda Alinawe (formerly known as "Kenya Dance") is a solved lostwave created by the Ugandan gospel singer David SonJC.

Background

On January 14th, 2013, YouTube user DizastaMusic (aka Filthy Frank) posted a video titled "HOW TO PICK UP WOMEN IN 30 DIFFERENT CULTURES", and at one point in the video, he can be seen dancing to a 3-second snippet on an unknown African song.[1] When his fans asked what this song was, Filthy Frank replied in an annotation with "Don't know the song name, stop asking!"[2]

On December 21st, 2015, a video titled "NEW African Cristiano Ronaldo - AMAZING Long Shot HD" was posted by the channel TM2.[3] At the end of the video, the same excerpt from Filthy Frank's video is heard; when asked where he found the song, TM2 claimed that he bought it on the deep web for ten pounds.[4]

On December 18th, 2020, YouTube user "Whang" uploaded a video covering various lostwave songs, including the Kenya Dance mystery, helping the search become popular.[5]

Discovery

On December 3rd, 2023, Youtube user nbduckman uploaded a video titled "The Search for the Filthy Frank Kenya Song" which explained the history of the search up to that point and offered a $300 bounty for the person who found the song.[6]

That same day, Discord user damn peggy watched the video and searched YouTube for "east ugandan gospel before:2013", and almost immediately discovered the song, which was revealed to be Katonda Alinawe by Ugandan gospel singer David SonJC.[7] nbduckman released another video that day announcing that the song was found and awarded the $300 bounty to damn peggy.[8]
