Bravely (previously known as "Try To Smile Again") is a solved europop song created by Beat Boy (Sven & Sulev Lõhmus) in 1992.

Background

Sometime before August 2004, a user named Oskar uploaded a 31 second snippet of the song to the website hot.ee/italodisco/ under the title "I Can Make You Smile If You Sometimes Cry".[1] On March 20th, 2005, Marek, the site's owner, reuploaded the song to the music identification website spiritofradio.ca, but it received no response.[2]

On October 4th, 2009, spiritofradio.ca user Konstantinos reuploaded Marek's snippet, but no notable leads were found, and the search was abandoned once again.[3]

The search gained traction on March 4th, 2023, when the song was first posted to YouTube by user JayKay.[4]

In December 2023, the song's primary lead was Russian alternative rock band Нeчтo, who shared a similar music style and vocals to the lost song.[5][6][7]

On February 14th, 2024, the original OP Oskar was contacted, which led him to upload his extended recording of the song to YouTube, claiming to have recorded it in Estonia between the mid-1990s and early 2000s.[8]

Discovery

On February 25th, 2024, Reddit user regingryzor was researching Estonian radio stations from the 1990's when he discovered a YouTube channel called Martin Jaanus that uploaded recordings of radio jingles and advertisements from the radio station Top Raadio.[9][10]

After contacting Martin Jaanus, he claimed that the song was likely an early production from popular Estonian musician Sven Lõhmus, from when he and his brother had a band called Beat Boy, and attached a link to a similar song called Girl.[11][12]

On February 26th, 2024, the song was identified as "Bravely" by Beat Boy after Sven Lõhmus was contacted and confirmed that he created the song in 1992.[13] On February 28th, 2024, the full song was posted after Discord user Mystic65 discovered it on the Soulseek network.[14]
