Cryptease (previously known as "Striptease" or "Pricktease") is an identified punk song by the American punk band Whorelords, which was first uploaded to the New Wave Outpost forums in 2012 by user Guglielm.

Background

On August 23, 2012, the song was first posted to the New Wave Outpost forums by user Guglielm as part of a collection of lost songs, but it did not gain much traction.[1]

On April 8, 2013, the song was first uploaded to WatZatSong by user nathank,[2] followed by an upload by user Guglielm on July 11, 2013,[3] before being reuploaded by Guglielm on September 7, 2014.[4] Based on the OP's other found songs, this song was most likely recorded between 1980 and 1984, and recorded from the WFMU New Jersey radio station.[5]

On December 5, 2024, Discord users Aidnic and rocketballboi discovered a Facebook post from WFMU DJ Pat Duncan, which featured a 1983 playlist that included a song called Cryptease by the punk band Whorelords.[6]

The band released an album called "The Sociopath E.P." in 1983,[7] which is not available online, but a song from the album shares an identical musical style and vocals to the lost song.[8] A 2015 test pressing of a compilation album of Whorelords songs, including Cryptease,[9] was never released[10] due to conflicts over the quality of the recordings.[11]

On April 22, 2025, the song was identified as Cryptease by Whorelords after an owner of The Sociopath E.P. was contacted on Discogs and confirmed that it was the same song.[citation needed]
