Chapulin Opening BGM
The Brazillian Chapulin Opening BGM, also known as BGM Chapolin 1993 or CHAPOLIN_CHAMADA (IN SBT audio database) is a unknown song used in the brazillian-dub opening of the El Chapulin Colorado series, originally made by Roberto Bolanos in the 1970s. This opening was made in 1993, by the SBT network, but the song was appeared in a few years before, in 1987 and 1989 in other programs of the same TV network (Like the vignette of an cartoon called Speedy Gonzales, a TV show called "Veja o Gordo, and the El Chavo commercials), although there are reports that the same song appeared on the station in the early 80s, but no concrete evidences has yet been found to support these informations).
History[edit | edit source]
1984: Premiere of Roberto Gomes Bolaños series on SBT[edit | edit source]
In 1984 Roberto Gomes Bolaños' series began to be shown in Brazil, the pioneering series El Chavo del Ocho (Chaves) and El Chapulin Colorado (Chapolin) ad to be redubbed and re-sounded when they were acquired by the SBT TV station.
In the process of re-dubbing the episodes for the brazillian portuguese, several sound sources were taken to be used as background music (often acquired amateurishly or without identification) to be used by the SBT TV station, it is likely that this music came from one of these obscure packages.
Many audio tracks from the series when they aired in Brazil were replaced by film scores and music by composers from the United Kingdom, more specifically from the Bruton Music and KPM Music labels.
1987: The misterious track in a Speedy Gonzales cartoon vignette[edit | edit source]
In 1987 this mysterious soundtrack was seen being reproduced in a vignette for the cartoon Speedy Gonzales, this being the first known appearance of this song in SBT network. The track in the commercials was used only max 32 seconds, then it was interrupted.

A little extended version of the song, with an exerpt that was unknown until 2022, was used in a comedy TV show called "Veja o Gordo". This is the largest version of the song that was used in SBT:

The soundtrack was used as background music for the commercials for the series El Chavo until 1993, the year in which the famous (and best known) opening of Chapulin Colorado was shown for the first time. This is a another commercial of the El Chavo show from 1989:

1993: The Chapulin Colorado new intro[edit | edit source]

2024: The original 32 seconds sample appears and removal from intro[edit | edit source]
In 2024 the original snippet used in the commercials was appeared in a exposition dedicated to the Roberto Bolanos's characters, but the complete song is still missing:

It is also worth noting that the track was seemingly removed from the intro as of November 2024. It was replaced by a track named "Flying Fists", composed by Brian Laurence Bennett and originally released in 1978.
