Ground Xero is an unidentified alternative-rock song that was misattributed as a demo created by Mark Wakefield, the original lead singer of the nu-metal band Linkin Park.

Background[edit | edit source]

On April 14, 2005, the song was first uploaded to a Linkin Park fan site called chestersings.com after the song was provided to them by a user named Astat. They had found the song on the peer-to-peer file sharing website Kazaa with the filename Wakefield - Ground Xero.[1][2]

The song was first reuploaded to YouTube on April 29, 2008 by user theoryoflinkin.[3]

On November 20, 2009, co-founder of Linkin Park, Mike Shinoda, confirmed that the song was not created by any iteration of the band.[4][5]

The song first gained attention in the Lostwave community on December 15, 2020, when Reddit user 483894387YES76 posted about the song on r/lostwave.[6]

Debunked[edit | edit source]

  • Single Bullet Theory - Ground Xero: Hoax post that created a fake channel impersonating an auto-generated YouTube topic channel.[7][8] The distributor mentioned in the video description is the same person who falsely claimed that their father created the song.[9]
