Avail (previously known as "Waste My Time") is a solved lostwave by indie-rock band The Burns, recorded from Minsk radio in 2010 and first posted by WatZatSong user morback in 2013.
Background[edit | edit source]
On November 5th, 2013, WatZatSong user morback posted the song for the first time without providing any additional information, but it was removed for unknown reasons.[1] On October 11th, 2014, morback added the entire song to the thread.[2]
On December 15th, 2014, user ID-Cancion reuploaded the song to YouTube,[3] and morback reuploaded the song to WatZatSong on January 9th, 2018, claiming that he recorded it from Belarusian radio station Indy Rock Radio in 2010.[4]
The song gained popularity in the lostwave community in June 2023, when it was first posted to r/lostwave by user Revolutionary_War443.[5] Due to the singer's heavy accent, nearly every word of the song was heavily debated, which made the search more difficult.[6][7]
Further correspondence with morback revealed that the song was most likely created by a non-Belarusian band, as it stopped airing on the radio in 2012, and Belarus had a law requiring 75% of music broadcast each day to be Belarusian.[8][9]
Discovery[edit | edit source]
On May 21st, 2024, Reddit user TZilantro_Slumber identified the song as "Avail" by Russian indie-rock band The Burns after a previous band he had contacted in the search, Pompeya, responded to him with the full song after their bassist Denis Agafonov found the song's music video.[10][11]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Presumed Lyrics |
(Verse 1)
Lonely smile, drink a while (Clothes hide?) how to picture us We're falling down, (head in?) (holding?) hands And it's too hard to live it up A lot of words are useless now Oh, should I ignore the peace Can't see the sign, wake up I hit the mirror from the sky Busted roads and empty streets (It hide where your road leads?) It leads somewhere, hidden deep You will never find it (Chorus) Today, you'll (sear?) Heartbreak in your dreams I'm so unkind Your (horrified?) heart is blind I waste my time I'm sure it's alright You'll try to find Some (words?) in your mind (Verse 2) A lot of the time, it’s alright Write a letter, (it's for sure?) (Greater dreams?) not too hard But if I need (to come?) to this So late leaving covered up Until the dark, I'll be undressed There is nothing truly there (The fight goes wild?) (Chorus) Today, you'll (sear?) Heartbreak in your dreams I'm so unkind Your (horrified?) heart is blind I waste my time I'm sure it's alright You'll try to find Some (words?) in your mind (Chorus 2) Today, you'll (sear?) Heartbreak in your dreams I'm so unkind Your (horrified?) heart is blind I waste my time I'm sure it's alright You'll try to find Some sense in my eyes |
