Funky (formerly known as "Dance For Hours a Day"), is a solved alternative-rock song released in 2005 by the band Royal Treatment Plant.
Background[edit | edit source]
On July 7th, 2007, Usenet user presveva posted the song to a group dedicated to Italian music, asking for the song's identification and hosting the full song with the filename "5.mp3" on a Google Site.[1][2]
On July 8th, 2007, presveva posted two snippets of the song on WatZatSong, deleting the first snippet ten minutes after he posted it for unknown reasons, but both posts received little attention.[3][4]
The song gained notoriety in the lostwave community after it was posted to YouTube by Mike Worst on September 26th, 2022,[5] and r/lostwave by iwaffle727 on October 20th, 2023.[6]
The OP returned to the thread on November 12th, 2023, adding that he may have downloaded the song from a torrent, possibly from Mininova or Demonoid.[7][8]
Discovery[edit | edit source]
On January 2nd, 2024, Discord users discovered the full version of the song's introduction in the OP's old WatZatSong post, which was still stored on their servers.[9][10]
On January 9th, 2024, after another user mentioned the band Royal Treatment Plant, Discord user Sveta began searching through their Discogs page, eventually finding their first demo album from 2005 simply titled "EP" with a song called Funky.[11][12] The full song was found on the drummer's website, but with a fadeout that cut a minute of the song off.[13]
On February 22nd, 2024, YouTube user Via discovered the complete version of the song by finding the user "artstorm", who was a top listener for the band on last.fm in 2008-2009, contacting him through Discord, and receiving a copy of the full album.[14]

Official Lyrics |
(Verse 1)
Girl you should be over this No time for playing games with little wicked boys Special like a crooked smile An eyebrow says he’s ready But I just cannot run a mile (Chorus) Pick your feet up you’re so funky Using words like missy, baby, play me, funky You’re way up high and boy don’t you know it You think the dance floor wears your name? Dance floor wears his name (Verse 2) If I took a pill and looked at you I wouldn’t stand a chance, I’ll stick to drinking I’m kind of glad you didn’t call You’re not that bright but boy Einstein didn’t look like you (Chorus) Pick your feet up you’re so funky Using words like missy, baby, play me, funky You’re way up high and boy don’t you know it You think the dance floor wears your name? Dance floor wears his name (Bridge 1) Well, I've forgotten all the names of those other boys I wrote the sad songs about Well, I can’t quite remember how hard I fell last time You’ve anaesthetized my brain To past and future pain (Chorus) Cause you’re so funky Using words like missy, baby, play me, funky You’re way up high and boy don’t you know it You think the dance floor wears your name? Dance floor wears his name (Bridge 2) And so I took that pill And boy you were a thrill Da da da-da, dada... And I didn’t quite believe You said you wouldn’t mess with me But I knew better, oh I knew better, oh I knew better (Chorus) Cause you’re so funky Using words like missy, baby, play me, funky You’re way up high and boy don’t you know it You think the dance floor wears your name? Dance floor wears his name (Bridge 2) And so I took that pill And boy you were a thrill Da da da-da, dada... And I didn’t quite believe You said you wouldn’t mess with me Oh I knew better, oh I knew better Oh I knew better, better, better, better, better... |
