We Tie Ourselves to Lies (also known as "I Don't Know When") is an unidentified indie-rock song uploaded to YouTube by user RMA in 2021.
Background[edit | edit source]
On May 2, 2021, the song was first uploaded to YouTube by user RMA, who found the song on a mix CD that they created sometime between 2006 and 2007. They copied songs from Filter or Paste magazine sampler CDs to create their mixes, but the song wasn't on any of the OP's currently owned CDs.[1]
The OP was involved with a radio show called Raise Your Voice on the KYRS Thin Air Community Radio in Spokane, Washington, which sourced local bands from MySpace. They also participated in local Battles of the Bands and traded demo CD's with numerous local bands.[1]
The song first gained attention in the Lostwave community on March 22, 2024, when it was reuploaded by YouTube user q.[2]

(Verse 1)
Open up to me Feed my lines to me Wings fly cross the line Car cuts through the night And no one sees but me (Chorus) And I’m feeling scared Like I always do And I don’t know when Don't get over me I won't get over you And I don’t know when We tie ourselves to lies And hope they’ll see us through But we don’t know that We tie ourselves to grief And hope that it will be The thing we wanted (Verse 2) Fog obscures the room Things aren’t simple for most And our words go sad Make us feel not so bad Driving out in my car I don't get too far Things we say seem enough To keep me safe My skin gets tough I’ve been alone too long I've gotten weak not strong (Chorus) And I’m feeling scared Like I always do And I don’t know when (and I don't know when) Don't get over me I won't get over you And I don’t know when (and I don’t know when) We tie ourselves to lies And hope they’ll see us through But we don’t know that (but we don’t know that) We tie ourselves to grief And hope that it will be The thing we wanted (the thing we wanted) (Outro) Don't get over me I won't get over you And I don’t know when Don't give up on me I won't give up on you And I don’t know when Don't get over me Don't get over me |
