"Oceania" (also known as "The Endless Longing of Sea Doves") is a nearly solved lostwave that is most likely an unreleased song by Australian band Dead Can Dance. It is considered to be one of the longest lostwave songs, lasting slightly more than 20 minutes.
Background[edit | edit source]
The song first appeared on a Dead Can Dance bootleg album titled "The Golden Age" in 1993, claiming to have been recorded live in 1988.[1] Two more identical bootleg albums containing the song followed titled The Hidden Treasures (1995) and Lost Treasures (2014).[2][3]
According to the fansite deadcandance.info, the song is called Oceania, it was performed at the beginning of a live performance on December 5th, 1988 in Paris and December 10th, 1988 in Hamburg,[4][5] and it was performed without founding members Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard.[6] The same information is available from a tape trading list from 1999, but the song is credited as The Endless Longing of Sea Doves rather than Oceania.[7]
On August 28th, 2012, user Alfredo Brvxias Fanzine uploaded the song to Soundcloud, and a commenter named hex84 claimed that the song was not by Dead Can Dance, but provided no additional information.[8]
On April 18th, 2024, Reddit user numerophobe posted another version of the song, which appears to be a different recording and is one minute shorter than the bootleg version.[9][10]
