On September 3rd 2009, user Sled1025 of the HMR forums, a hub for conversations about metal bands, posted a query about a song taped from the Dallas based rock and metal station, Z-Rock. Sled1025 said that all the songs on the tape were released in 1988 or earlier. They transcribed the lyrics and provided an MP3 file of the track. The search went quiet after this.

On December 3rd 2020, Armador Thrash tweeted asking for help with finding an unknown metal song recorded from Z-Rock in 1987. They tagged the user Metalattackers in hopes that they would spread it and other enthusiasts would remember the song. A day later, discussion about the song moved to back to the HMR Forums, where it was suggested that the lyrics could be searched on the Metal Archives. When this proved fruitless, the song was uploaded to Youtube. User Poserkiller suggested the song could be "Fall of the King" by Redd Barron, giving the song its placeholder name. On the 15th of December, the Youtube upload was shared to the Cult Metal Classics Facebook page.

Redd Barron was one of the first leads to be raised, as they had a song titled "Fall of the King" which matched key lyrics in the song, however, fans of the band said this was purely a coicidence and Redd Barron uploaded a version of their song in 2020 which proved that the two songs were different.

Fall of the King is a hard lostwave to reaserch confirmed information about as many leads have been raised without follow up and a lot of bands cannot be contacted or haven't been contacted, so most threads are left dangling. For example, the band Blackmayne was raised as a possibility but could not be contacted on Facebook, leading to the theory only being debunked by circumstantial evidence rather than rebuttal.
In late 2020, Armador Thrash submitted the song to Ian Christe's ROOTS metal history show on SiriusXM Liquid Metal, seeking help in identifying the band.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opaL6a-OMKw</ref>

Currently a Californian band called Draggone, formally named Zion, is being investigated, with a song called "Glory to the King" from 1987 being attributed to them.

The Fall Of The King (also known as "The Fallen King" or "The King Has Fallen") is an unknown song taped off Dallas Texas radio station, Z-Rock, in the mid-to-late 80s by Sled1025 on the Encyclopaedia Metallum forums and Armador Thrash on Twitter.

Background[edit | edit source]

On September 3rd, 2009, user Sled1025 from the Encyclopaedia Metallum forums, a website for discussions about metal bands, posted in a thread dedicated to song identification a recording from Dallas-based rock and metal station Z-Rock.[1] Sled1025 claimed that all of the songs on the tape were released in 1988 or earlier, transcribed the lyrics and provided an MP3 version of the track.[2]

On December 3rd, 2020, Twitter user Armador Thrash asked for help in finding an unknown metal song recorded from Z-Rock in 1987.[3] A day later, the discussion about the song continued on the Heavy Metal Rarities Forums, where it was suggested that the lyrics could be found in the Metal Archives. When this proved unsuccessful, the song was uploaded to YouTube.[4] User Poserkiller suggested that the song be called "Fall of the King" by Redd Barron, giving the song its placeholder name.[5]

In late 2020, Armador Thrash submitted the song to Ian Christe's ROOTS metal history show on SiriusXM Liquid Metal, seeking help in identifying the band.[6]

On December 14th, 2020, a post about the song was made on r/lostwave, which initially attracted the interest of the lostwave community.[7]
