'''Treadmill Of Time''' is a nearly solved lostwave.
'''Treadmill of Time''' (also known as '''"Slow Down"''' and '''"Not Sure Of It All Anymore"''') is a solved lostwave misattributed to Depeche Mode under the name "Treadmill of Fire", with the false claim that it was a 1981 demo by keyboardist Alan Wilder.

It was originally uploaded to YouTube in December 2020, falsely claimed to be a 1981 demo by Alan Wilder (Depeche Mode).
In September 2024, after three years of the claim requiring verification, the song was identified as "Treadmill of Time" by Memorybank, after the band's founder Tim Addy posted a cassette inlay containing the album's tracklist.

On December 17, 2020, @buildist (Jacob Morgan) on YouTube uploaded a song falsely claimed to be a 1981 demo by Adam Wilder from Depeche Mode.
The song was first mentioned on the internet on April 25th, 2002 on depechemode-sk, a Slovakian Depeche Mode fan site.<ref>https://www-depechemode-sk.translate.goog/magazin/clanok/zaujimavosti-o-depeche-mode-1-cast?_x_tr_sl=sk&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc</ref> It was labelled as a fake song because it appeared on a 2002 bootleg Depeche Mode album called "On Solo Ways...".<ref>https://forum.klix.ba/muzika-f19/depeche-mode-t59965.html</ref>

Before that, someone uploaded the song on the Depeche Mode wiki, along with two other songs presumedly from the same artist.
On September 8th, 2010, YouTube user CharlieMillesManson reuploaded the song to YouTube under the mislabeled title "Depeche Mode - Treadmill Of Fire (Demo Version)", along with numerous other rare Depeche Mode songs.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrOdQFm_ZRI</ref>

It is extremely likely that the song could be by Memorybank since they are Facebook mutuals with Depeche Mode and have been claiming the song is theirs before there was an active search.
On October 15th, 2019, the song was posted to spiritofradio.ca, claiming that it, along with two other songs from the bootleg album, Chart Rundown and Here to Have Fun, were originally sourced from a radio broadcast from the mid-1980s or early 1990s, with the DJ or host claiming Alan Wilder as the creator.<ref>https://spiritofradio.ca/SongComments.asp?SongID=3190</ref> The broadcast also included "Disco Hell," an actual early track from Wilder's band, "Daphne and the Tenderspots".<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1FBLAfawIQ</ref> The station and broadcaster remain unknown.

A massive lead came up when someone mentioned the Turkish band Voyagers, suggesting that the singer goes by the name of Gonsu. A song by the Voyagers exists on YouTube, and the voice sounds nearly identical. Gonsu has been contacted but with no response. His mutual friend Gokhan, who is a presumed member of the band, has also been contacted on May 22-23, 2024.
In September 2020, the song first gained attention in the lostwave community when Discord user Bluey G. Wulfsy posted the song "Chart Rundown" in the server for [[The Most Mysterious Song On The Internet]], after discovering it while listening to unsolved tracks on Spirit of Radio.<ref name=":0">https://www.reddit.com/r/TreadmillofTimeSong/comments/1frjppy/timeline_of_search/</ref>

However, evidence has been found against this lead. u/Pandalism on Reddit says:

In March 2021, a YouTube user named Nik Lawrence commented on a response to the original YouTube upload of the song, confirming that the band is not Depeche Mode and that he knows the original creators of the song.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrOdQFm_ZRI&lc=UgxBKERsK1U3PdlAtcB4AaABAg.9CIJ4RtdJHU9Kktj_n1I6l</ref>

In August 2021, Lawrence was contacted by Discord user humanracer, who confirmed that a band he was in, "Memorial," which was founded in 1988 by T Addy and J Lewis, were the creators of the lost song. Lawrence advised humanracer to get in touch with Tim Addy, the song's producer, for a higher quality copy of the song.<ref name=":0" />

''This turned out not to be true. Original source of the info was a Facebook comment by someone who knew Tansu, but they later edited it to add that they contacted him and it's not [https://www.facebook.com/groups/23196533715/permalink/10160042603513716/?comment_id=10160044934578716 Voyagers].''
In February 2023, Tim Addy finally responded to humanracer's messages, confirming that the band was actually called Memorybank, and that they recorded an album in the summer of 1988 called "Key To The Door", which contained the song. Jonathan Lewis was confirmed to be the lead songwriter and vocalist, with Tim handling production and drum programming.<ref name=":0" />

''EDIT and CORRECTION: Hello. Even though it was a little late, I received an answer from my friend Tansu, and I couldn't write immediately because I was on a trip.''
On September 20th, 2024, Tim Addy would provide Reddit user gksvevo with a photo of the cassette inlay for Memorybank's 1987 album "Key To The Door", which included the lost songs Treadmill Of Time, Here To Have Fun and Chart Rundown as well as unheard songs such as The High Ridge, The Golden Age, Suburban Empires, and Photographique (which was previously eluded to by Lawrence<ref name=":0" /> and Addy,<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1flj38i/comment/lo4duhu/</ref> who claimed that the band recorded a French cover of Depeche Mode's song Photographic).<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1flj38i/big_memorybank_discovery/</ref>

''I sent him the link with the 3 demos and said, "These are your songs, aren't they? These recordings are circulating as Alan Wilder's demo recordings." In his reply, he said that the vocals were incredibly similar to his vocals, but that these songs did not belong to them. He also used the word "Treadmill" mentioned in the song in one of his songs, but in a different way.''
Despite not receiving a master copy of the song from Tim Addy, who is no longer in possession of it,<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1flj38i/comment/lo3bw2b/</ref> the lostwave community declared the song solved on September 27th, 2024, citing overwhelming evidence.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Lostwave/comments/1fqxqom/memorybank_songs_edge_of_a_dream_and_words/</ref>

''I'm trying to alleviate some of the embarrassment I feel for writing so confidently that these recordings belong to Voyagers, since I somehow remember the word "Treadmill" on his song and the vocals are so similar that even he was confused. Frankly, I was very deceived because I kept telling Tansu that her vocals were bad and I never even considered the idea that such a bad vocal could have a twin. (I still can't believe)''

''Old and wrong comment: Unbelievable 😃This demo has nothing to do with Alan Wilder. This is an amateur New Wave band called "Voyagers" from Turkey. It was a band founded in 90's by 3 friends from the same neighborhood (in Istanbul) who studied at different universities and loved Depeche Mode: Tansu(vocal+synths), Gökhan(synths) and Akan(synths).''

''How do I know? Tansu and I were going to the same university, we even met and became friends because we wore the same Violator t-shirt, and he was always making me listen to this and similar records of his. I used to criticize him all the time because I didn't like the way he sang the lyrics and his vocals (I still don't like it lol)''

''Tansu had also posted a few recordings on YouTube somewhere, but there are so many (unrelated) Voyagers that I can't find what I'm looking for.''

''What I don't understand; What kind of moron is it to find such a bad recording (which I'm sure they released it under the name Voyagers), ignore/erase the name Voyagers and claim that it is Alan Wilder's demo?''”
Memorybank could be the biggest lead right now, but it has gone cold with no progress in the last six months.

Treadmill of Time (also known as "Slow Down" and "Not Sure Of It All Anymore") is a solved lostwave misattributed to Depeche Mode under the name "Treadmill of Fire", with the false claim that it was a 1981 demo by keyboardist Alan Wilder.

In September 2024, after three years of the claim requiring verification, the song was identified as "Treadmill of Time" by Memorybank, after the band's founder Tim Addy posted a cassette inlay containing the album's tracklist.

Background[edit | edit source]

The song was first mentioned on the internet on April 25th, 2002 on depechemode-sk, a Slovakian Depeche Mode fan site.[1] It was labelled as a fake song because it appeared on a 2002 bootleg Depeche Mode album called "On Solo Ways...".[2]

On September 8th, 2010, YouTube user CharlieMillesManson reuploaded the song to YouTube under the mislabeled title "Depeche Mode - Treadmill Of Fire (Demo Version)", along with numerous other rare Depeche Mode songs.[3]

On October 15th, 2019, the song was posted to spiritofradio.ca, claiming that it, along with two other songs from the bootleg album, Chart Rundown and Here to Have Fun, were originally sourced from a radio broadcast from the mid-1980s or early 1990s, with the DJ or host claiming Alan Wilder as the creator.[4] The broadcast also included "Disco Hell," an actual early track from Wilder's band, "Daphne and the Tenderspots".[5] The station and broadcaster remain unknown.

In September 2020, the song first gained attention in the lostwave community when Discord user Bluey G. Wulfsy posted the song "Chart Rundown" in the server for The Most Mysterious Song On The Internet, after discovering it while listening to unsolved tracks on Spirit of Radio.[6]
