Man On A Hill, formerly known as There's A Man is a solved indie rock lostwave created in 2008 by the band The Defended.

History

In 2017 the song was posted to Soundcloud with a request for identification by a Ukrainian user called Arthur Bogushev. The song had been saved on an MP3 player Bogushev had owned but there had been no title or artist.

On April 6th 2017, Bogushev uploaded the song to Soundcloud to preserve it since they planned to dispose of the MP3 player. They titled the track "1" and asked if anyone could identify it.

In 2022, a snippet of the song was uploaded to Youtube by the channel Lost Music: Cold Case. This finally sparked interest in the search.

Search and Discovery

Arizona Ranger reached out to Bogushev and got the previously mentioned information about the song's origin, which led to speculation the song may be from a Ukrainian band. The song gained popularity in the lostwave community, being reuploaded several times.

On February 19th 2024, r/lostwave user TrippyDrew and Discord user lexal8054 discovered the song by searching keywords from the song using the before: search feature. They found a live video of The Defended performing the song and later found the full track on a site called Indie Music People.
